Give It Another Go

Give It Another Go

The notable children's book titled "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,"Frustrated-Boy-SM.jpg published in 1972, tells the story of a young boy experiencing a series of daily life misfortunes. It begins with the words: "I went to sleep with gum in my mouth and now there's gum in my hair. When I got out of bed this morning, I tripped over the skateboard and accidentally threw my sweater into the sink. It looks like it's going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day... I'm moving to Australia!"

Every person in the world has felt this way on challenging days. We often overreact to life's setbacks, even in ordinary situations, and the resulting frustrations stay with us for a long time, turning into various emotional problems. Sometimes we just need to take a step back, refocus, and give it another go!

The story of Christ meeting the devastated disciples returning after an unsuccessful fishing trip is an excellent example of an approach worth emulating. Instead of succumbing to discouragement, Christ advises the disciples to cast their nets once more. He reminds them that sometimes the only way to improve the situation is to keep trying, be persistent, and trust that our efforts can lead to the desired outcomes.

"Pray as if everything depends on God and work as if everything depends on you."  - St. Ignatius of Loyola
