A Matter of Perspective
When a vulture is placed in a small fenced-in area where the top is completely open, this bird will remain grounded because there is not enough space for it to gain a running start. Despite it's ability to fly, it will stay.
When a bat is placed on a flat surface of the ground, all it can do is crawl helplessly because it needs air to rise under its wings to be able to take off. Despite its ability to fly, it will stay.
When a bee is placed in an open container, it will try to fly towards the light even though the light may be at the bottom of the jar. It will remain there even though the container is open. Despite its ability to fly, it will stay.
Each of us have moments in life where we feel the desire for our spirits to 'fly', but we cannot find the way. We feel stuck. Sometimes, it's simply a matter of changing our perspective.
The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments suggest that a person seeking spiritual growth should go up to the mountain. Not only because it symbolically means closeness to God, but also to distance yourself from everyday life for a while and get better perspective of what is happening in it.
One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray and spent the night praying to God.
